How to Crochet a Basic Granny Square
Making a basic granny square is very simple. Once you learn to make one, the possibilities seem endless. One simple design can be modified so may ways by simply mixing up the colors and color combinations.
I always start my basic granny squares with a CH 5 and form a ring. The squares in the picture below have 4 rows of the main color and 1 row of white trim. Depending on the size of the blanket I wish to make, I may add 1 or 2 more rows in different colors. Other granny square designs will begin differently… but this the for the BASIC square that you see most often.
I find that learning a new stitch or design concept is easier when demonstrated. So, I added a video below (by Bella Coco) to show you how to do it. If you have been thinking about learning to crochet, this would make an excellent simple first project.
