Why I love Red Heart Super Saver Yarn
I am totally NOT a yarn snob! I know that there are fabulous yarns out there available for sale at moderate to high prices. I simply have never felt the need to buy any of these high dollar skeins.
I have crocheted for many, many years now. I am almost 47 and I first learned to crochet at about 7 years old. So, I have been around the block a few times. I started to seriously crochet in my early 20’s and at that time I mixed up my yarn purchases with Red Heart and Mainstays (this was a Walmart brand they no longer carry). I still have blankets that I made with Red Heart yarn back in the early 1990’s….. Some of my family members also still have blankets I made for them back then. Take a look at the blanket below:
I made this for my niece when she was little. My sister still has the blanket and uses it as a throw in the living room. It actually has a hole in it that she has not yet repaired and it has STILL stayed together! I look at that blanket now and think “Why did I choose those colors??”… but it was over 20 years ago and styles change!
These days, most of my work is with designing patterns. (See my crochet pattern designs here.) It is much more cost effective to use the Super Saver. And, if you wash the yarn a particular way, it will be really soft and cozy. Of course I have used other brands of yarn and different varieties of Red Heart. A couple of other types are:
Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn” – This is a really affordable brand that comes in 7oz solids and 5oz ombres. It is really soft and comes in many colors.
Red Heart With Love – This is a newer variety and the yarn is super soft. When it was first released, I purchased a great deal of it. Now, they have magically reduced the size of the skeins to 6oz solids and 4.5oz ombres. This just does not work for me any longer because a great deal of my work is based on 7oz skeins….. sigh! It was good while it lasted though.
All of the yarns mentioned above are synthetic. No natural fibers…. So, if that is what you are looking for, be prepared to pay more. And, I personally cannot speak to how well the fiber holds up over time.
I purchase my yarn at my local WalMart or online at Joannes.com. This makes buying it very convenient. I really like the fact that I can pick up some new yarn when I stop to buy diapers or a gallon of milk! Below is a picture of what I call my YARN WALL OF DOOM! This picture does not even show all of the yarn I have stored there… Sigh….But… I can always use more!
So… I really love my Red Heart Super Saver yarn. It comes in so many colors and is extremely durable. Pick some up today… You can even buy it from Amazon now.
By the way… if any Red Heart reps see this post and feel the need to send me some samples to review, just let me know! (wink!)
