Crochet Toddler Crown: Free Pattern

Free crochet pattern for an adorable princess crown. Will fit toddler thru child.

Hi all, I am making several crowns today for my granddaughter’s first birthday party tomorrow. So, I decided to write the pattern and post it for free.
Adoarable baby crown. Free crochet pattern on http://poochie-baby.com

I made one slightly smaller to fit her head securely, but this pattern also fits her. I discovered that once the crown stretches, I can wear it too! So, theoretically, it will fit toddlers thru adults.

Enjoy!

*Update 2/4/15: This pattern was previously posted on “mypoochiebaby” blog. It has been moved to the new site by Poochie Baby.

Materials:

H Hook (Clover Soft Touch hook)
Yarn: I used “I Love This Yarn” Sparkle yarn

Pattern:

CH 53 and join the chain with a SS to form a circle. Be very careful not to twist your chain.

R1 – CH 2 and HDC all the way around the chain. Be careful not to twist the chain while you are working. Join the two sides with a SS.

R2 – CH 1 and SC all the way around. Join with a SS.

R3 – Skip the first stitch and DC three times in the next stitch. CH 1 and SS in the stitch directly below (see the picture below). Then, DC two more times into the same stitch that already has three DCs (see picture). Skip the next stitch and SC in the next stitch. Continue to make the crown points with *three DCs, CH 1, SS, two DCs, skip one stitch and SC in the next stitch* all the way around. You should end up with thirteen crown points. At the end, join with a SS and tie off.

Weave in the loose ends and turn the crown right side out.

And that’s it! These are very easy to make and really quick……. Have a super sparkly day!

  1. Thank you for such a wonderful pattern. I have made several for my granddaughter and for former students’ babies. I love giving them something that I have made and I can’s crochet a blanket for everyone. I have arthritis and I can make a crown without a great deal of pain. Your illustrations and directions are super and I appreciate your generosity in sharing.
    Thanks again,
    Char

  2. Love this pattern! I was wondering if we have permission to sell what we make (as long as we link back to your page)?

  3. To Maria Laster: You may sell this item on any site except Etsy (I sell them on that particular site). You may also sell them in person….. And, please do add a link to this site when selling online.
Thanks! – Michele a.k.a. Poochie Baby

  4. This is exactly what I am looking for. Is there a way to print pattern without all the pictures? Thanks

  5. Just finished making this. It worked up very fast and turned out really cute. I used Peaches and Cream cotton yarn because it matched the colors I needed lol but it still looks great. Thank you for this pattern! It will be perfect for my baby’s First birthday party.

  6. Thanks for the great tutorial and photos! I have a baby niece on the way and your instructions are the first I’ve read that made sense to me. :o)

  7. Hi Deb… thanks for the comments. I try very hard to make my instructions easy to understand. I absolutely do NOT like using patterns when I make things! And the counting!!! Don’t even get me started on that………….. So, my patterns are written more as tutorials I suppose.

  8. I thought I posted a comment…but I do not see it. 🙁 I would like to make this for my 3 year old. This one would fit a baby, but my toddlers head is 21inches around. How many chains would I do to get it to be that big? and to get the accurate number of crown points?

  9. To Remi Page: I made many of these crowns for a first birthday party……….. Most of the crowns were worn by adults. So, the pattern that is posted is very flexible. The crowns will stretch. I recommend that you make it according to the pattern and try it on your child. It should fit. I hope this helps!

  10. Love your pattern and it IS so easy and quick! Well, after I realized I was skipping the “Skip” on either side of the single crochet, in the points, that is…”Why do I have seventeen points!” 🙂 I rather like it around my hair bun on top. It’s good to be the queen!
